STONE: ZEN GARDEN (2020)

2.2 x 2.2 x 3 m

INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION

WOODEN FRAME, KINECT V1, PROCESSING, SUPERCOLLIDER

INTERACTIVE SPACE WHERE ONE CAN EXPERIENCE BEING A STONE PHYSICALLY AND DIGITALLY. REFERENCING THE ARRANGEMENT OF ROCKS IN A JAPANESE ROCK GARDEN, THE HUMAN STONES ARE LOOSELY INSTRUCTED TO PLACE THEMSELVES WITHIN THE PHYSICAL SPACE TO ACHIEVE VISUAL BALANCE. THE DIGITAL LANDSCAPE ABSTRACT THE BODILY FORMS INTO TEXTURES, LIKENING THE CONFIGURATIONS OF PEOPLE  TO THAT OF OBJECTS. THE TEXTURED SOUNDSCAPE IS COMPARABLE TO OUR PERCEPTION OF VISUAL NOISE. THE IMMERSIVE SPACE TRIGGERS VARIOUS REACTIONS FROM THE EMBODIED FORMS, CREATING A DYNAMIC INTERPLAY OF POSTURES AND BEHAVIOURS, TEXTURAL VISUALISATION AND GENERATED SOUND.

THIS WORK WAS PRESENTED AT PCD21 PORTO FUTURE VISION TALKS PANEL, 11 FEBRUARY 2021
